The Young Eagles Mission- The mission of the National EAA Aviation Foundation's Young Eagle's Program is to provide a motivational aviation experience to youths wishing to participate, focusing on a demonstration flight.
The Young Eagles Goal - Our goal was to reach 1 million young people (nationwide) by December 17th, 2003, and we met our goal!
What Will My Flight be Like? - You will see the earth and sky in a new and exciting way. You will experience the wonderful freedom of flight that many people only dream about. Like an eagle, you will soar among the clouds and understand the many possibilities that flight - and life in general - have to offer. Many people remember this experience for the rest of their lives. You will, too!
Who Pays? - The Young Eagles Program is all volunteer, and all Young Eagles flights are provided free of charge! Actually, Pilots donate their time, planes and fuel so they may share the joy of flying a Young Eagle! Each pilot pays for 100% of his or her operating costs. National EAA provides the local chapters with all paperwork necessary to carry out a rally. Funding for these materials comes from dues paid by all EAA members. Thanks go to all the pilots and volunteers that make this program an enormous success.
How Safe is Flying? - Flying in an airplane is safer than many other forms of recreation. Each Eagle Flight takes place in an FAA registered airplane flown by a licensed pilot, and the flight is conducted according to federal regulations. No aerobatic or non-standard aircraft maneuvers are performed. In addition, our local pilots (Chapter 49 & 1000) must participate in a preflight safety briefing prior to each rally. Our Chapters have safely flown several thousand Young Eagles since the start of the Young Eagle program in 1992
A Few Rules - Eagle Flight candidates wishing to participate must be between the ages of 8 and 17 and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. You must remain at the airport with your Young Eagle! Also, each candidate's parent or guardian must fill out a registration form available only the day of the rally. Please show up at the airfield for registration within one hour after the published start time (i.e. if the rally starts at 8am, please show up before 9am if possible). You don't have to show up early as flight preparations take some time to get underway. Every attempt will be made to fly all youths who want to fly. Please ensure each candidate is properly dressed (bring a jacket as its usually cold in the morning on the flight-line).
Millions of people fly safely in airplanes every year. However, an airport is not a playground. Listen and follow instructions given by the ground crew and pilots. Listen carefully for instructions on entering and exiting the airplane, do not touch any part of an airplane without the pilots permission and stay away from the propellers.
Come on out to have fun!- Remember, the EAA National Young Eagles Program is all volunteer! Both pilots and ground crew are donating all their time and efforts to make this program a success. We do this because we really love airplanes and flying, and we want to share this adventure with the youth of the Antelope Valley. Thank you for your support!
When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return. - Leonardo da Vinci
