I currently fly an RV-6A which you can read about here. Unlike those valiant EAAers who spend years building their dreams, I simply wrote a check for both homebuilts. I got my hands on my first, a VariEze N123JM in December 1996. It was build by Jim Mayfield in Arizona and completed in 1992. After Jim sold it, 3JM was owned by Dave Motely (now a RV-6A driver) in Chino, CA. The VariEze was powered by a 100hp Continental O-200 (same motor found in everyone's favorite Cessna 150). With it's two seats and it's three fuel tanks (27 gallons total) full, 3JM has a range of roughly 900 miles. In a never ending search for truth, justice, the American way, speed, and cheap av-gas I have flown as far as Houston and put 3JM through a cross-country race or two. I used the VariEze to ward off the twitches I get when I don't fly (withdrawl the doctors say). One day, I hope to get my (still classified) own design in the air.
Fly safe!
